Hospital Guild Presents Scholarships at Luncheon

Garden Grove Hospital's Volunteer Guild held its annual scholarship luncheon on Friday, July 13 in the Litke Auditorium.

The Guild distributed $18,000 in scholarships to 18 deserving students who are pursuing healthcare related careers. The Guild received a $10,000 donation for the program program from the Prime Healthcare Foundation. The foundation, which was founded by Prem Reddy, M.D., FACC, FCCP, Chairman, President and CEO of Prime Healthcare Services, has a long history of contributions towards student scholarships, free medical care and medical clinics.

The following students were awarded scholarships:

Jeffrey Krebs, M.D., a physician in San Diego and a past recipient of the Guild Scholarship Program noted: "From 1979 to 1982, I was honored and proud to be the recipient of scholarships from the Garden Grove Hospital (formerly Palm Harbor General Hospital) Volunteer Guild. Besides the greatly appreciated financial support, the moral support from the Guild members as I started out in pursuit of my medical career was invaluable. My thanks goes out to the wonderful Guild and the work that you do supporting and encouraging young students of medicine."

"I always knew that I wanted to be a physician. During my years at Garden Grove High School, I worked first as an orderly in the operating room and then as a phlebotomist at Garden Grove Hospital. I gained valuable insight into the world of medicine during those important years which firmed up my decision to pursue a medical career."

GGHMC Celebrates Top 100 Recognition

Garden Grove Hospital celebrated its honor at a 100 Top Hospital in the Nation at a special event held on June 7. The event included remarks from Chief of Staff Joseph Khan, M.D.; Chief Medical Officer Hassan Alkhouli, M.D.; City of Garden Grove Mayor Bill Dalton; and Hospital Administrator Sofia Abrina.

The highlight of the event was the unveiling of a banner noting the facility's Top 100 designation. GGHMC was named a "100 Top Hospital" by Thomson Reuters, the world's leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare.

"This recognition reflects the outstanding hard work, dedication and excellent patient care that our hospital provides," said Sofia Abrina, RN, MBA, Garden Grove Hospital Medical Center administrator. "We are proud to be acknowledged as a leader in health care with this prestigious award.
